I love being a woman except for days dysmenorrhea feels like it's tearing my uterine walls from the inside. Then, I heard from my mother that child birth is about 10 times more excruciating. Words like that makes blessed singleness interesting!
While a pregnant woman in labor is unimaginable pain, most mothers would agree that the joy of seeing your baby for the first time is worth it. Your world as a woman is forever changed.
The Bible loves comparing the difficulties of this world to labor pains.
The exile was pictured as so.
Writhe and groan like a woman in labor,
you people of Jerusalem,
for now you must leave this city
to live in the open country.
You will soon be sent in exile
to distant Babylon.
But the Lord will rescue you there;
he will redeem you from the grip of your enemies.
-Micah 4:10
Israelites were given over to their enemies. On the surface, it looks like they're being abandoned by God. After such pain however comes rescue and they'll be able to return to their land.
And in the end of time, the same imagery was used.
She was pregnant, and she cried out because of her labor pains and the agony of giving birth.
-Revelation 12:3
We are to expect that things are not going to be better in the days to come. As the day of the Lord's coming gets nearer, the agony becomes greater. Then, when the day finally arrives, there is much relief and victory.
“It has come at last—
salvation and power
and the Kingdom of our God,
and the authority of his Christ.
-Revelation 12:10
What feels like child birth in your life right now?
What feels unpleasant, painful and seemingly without an end?
It's positive.
You're pregnant. Something as joyous as having a new born baby will happen next.
Hold on.
Don't be afraid.
Push harder.
Look forward to joy of what is to come!
Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.
-Romans 8:18
